Located in the Northeastern corner of Wisconsin, Oconto lies on the spectacular shores of the Bay of Green Bay. With a population of 4,513, Oconto is just a quick 30 minute drive north of the bustling city of Green Bay.

Oconto is considered by many to be the start of the true Wisconsin Northwoods, but still has access to amenities of larger cities. Situated between dense forests, beautiful wetlands, stunning shorelines and more than 33 sites on the National Register of Historic Places, you'll see right away why Oconto is in itself "History on the Bay."

The county seat for Oconto County, Oconto maintains strong economic and social ties to its neighboring towns and cities including Little River, Oconto Falls, Lena and Peshtigo.

Comprised of roughly 35 square blocks, Oconto's north and south sides are separated by the beautiful Oconto River.

History

Hello! On behalf of all the citizens, businesses and industries here in our amazing hidden jewel, Oconto, may I extend a warm and wonderful WELCOME to you! We are so pleased to greet you as a guest (who could possibly become a permanent participant) in all this friendly, little city has to share.
Experience our rich history: a coral reef, which eventually became the home of the Copper Culture Indians (check out the Copper Culture Museum) thousands of years ago, to a booming lumber town that produced the Main Street mansions and Beyer Home Museum. Make sure to bring your bicycle and Ride Oconto History, an idea that began as a school project by one Oconto student and has now been adopted as a biking activity by the city.

We are proud to call Oconto the county seat, but we are also proud of everything we have to offer: an airport, library, community theater, radio station, 7 industries, over 80 diverse businesses (including home-based businesses), 12 churches of all faiths, 5 apartment complexes and more than 12 service clubs.
