The City of Oconto is located on the west shoreline of the Bay of Green Bay, approximately 35 miles north of the City of Green Bay, and 155 miles north of the City of Milwaukee. The City is bounded to the north by the Town of Little River; the Town of Oconto wraps around the south, west, and a portion of the City's northern boundary. As a Class 4 City under State Statutes, Oconto has the right and responsibility to plan for a 1 and 1/2 mile area beyond its borders. Oconto was originally a well-populated Indian settlement.
