Utility Commission

(Water and Wastewater)

The water utility operates and maintains the city’s water infrastructure to the highest standards. The department must follow the strict rules of the Public Service Commission, which sets the Rules, and Rates by which the Utility must operate. Maintenance schedules are followed for all areas from the wells right down to the water meters, valve exercising and hydrant flushing.

The wastewater treatment plant provides a cost effective treatment of all wastewater discharged into the sanitary sewer system. It is our policy to provide the best possible treatment of our waste to keep our receiving waters clean.

The cities lab provides testing for BOD (Biological oxygen demand), TSS (Total suspended solids), phosphorus, ammonia and drinking water (bacterial testing for private wells).
