Sesquicentennial Coins Available

City of Oconto Sesquicentennial coins are now available for purchase at City Hall (M-F, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).  The cost of each coin is $10 and the proceeds will pay for the production of the coins as well as going toward the cost of events related to the sesquicentennial.

Coins can also be purchased online by going to: https://www.govpaynow.com/gps/user/plc/9038 and entering your information.  Please add $0.65 to each coin to cover the cost of shipping.

Part-Time Police Clerk

Part-Time Police Clerk – Oconto, WI (pop. 4,536), located on the Oconto River 30 minutes north of Green Bay, has a current opening for the position of part-time Police Clerk. This position will work approximately 20 hours per week, with occasional evening and early-morning hours required.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: Answer and dispatch calls and walk-in complaints. Respond to and fulfill open records requests while remaining in compliance with State and Federal Laws, including department logs and press releases to media. Prepare agenda, minutes and all correspondence for the Police and Fire Commission meetings. Submit monthly data through Wisconsin Incident Based Reporting. Disseminate reports and classified information to other agencies and departments including; Department of Corrections, Children’s Advocacy Center, Sexual Assault Center, Department of Human Services and other law enforcement agencies. Electronically submit reports and evidence to the District Attorney’s Office for review and prosecution. Regularly works with Human Services, while preparing and submitting reports and information as needed. Records all parking violations and follows up with unpaid fines. Sends vehicle registration suspension and refusal requests to the Department of Transportation. Responsible to be aware of, review and follow the Oconto Police Department’s policies and procedures. Also responsible for special projects and other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications include one to three years of experience working in an office environment. Individual must have customer service experience, excellent communication and organizational skills, strong computer skills and be self-motivated. A working knowledge of municipal government. Must be able to pass background check. Knowledge with Spillman is preferred.

9th Annual Candlelight Walk – February 2, 2019

The 9th Annual candlelight hike at Copper Culture State Park is schedueld for this Saturday, February 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Refreshments and a warming campfire will be available at the park pavilion. Registration is not required and admission is free, but donations are always appreciated. Although the trail is lit by candles, a flashlight is recommended. Snow Removal

SIDEWALK SNOW REMOVAL

 

Under City Ordinance No. 986 and Section 6-2-7 it shall be duty of the owners and/or the occupants of any lot or parcel of land in the City of Oconto to remove, or cause to be removed, the snow and ice from any and all sidewalks.

 

The owner or occupant will have forty-eight hours to remove any snow or ice after the cessation of any fall of snow.

 

The Superintendent of Public Works or his designee shall remove or cause the snow to be removed from any and all sidewalks that may be neglected by the owner or occupant and a fee shall be assessed against the owner or occupant for the cost and expense of moving such snow. The minimum cost for the removal will be $75.00

Snow Plowing and Removal

 

Under City Ordinance Chapter 2 Section 6-2-11 (Unlawful Dumping on Streets.) It shall be unlawful for any person to deposit or cause to be deposited, dump, sort, scatter or leave any snow or ice in any public street, sidewalk, and alley or upon any public property of another without the express permission of the owner of occupant thereof.

 

Citations will be issued for any person violating the above said ordinance.
