Military Parade – August 4, 2021

MILITARY PARADE COMING TO OCONTO On Wednesday, August 4, 2021, a historic military vehicle convoy will be coming to Oconto between 12:00-2:00 p.m. The members are over age 60 and about half are Veterans. They call themselves the “Longest Veterans Day Parade” across America. This year they are following the historic highway route from Aberdeen, SD to Eastern Ohio over a three-week period. You are all encouraged to come and see the vehicles. They are planning to come into Oconto on Hwy S and continuing down Main Street to Farnsworth Ave. to Pecor St. and then Brazeau Ave. to view the decorated fence done by the Woman’s Club. After their stop here, they plan to head to Peshtigo & Marinette. There are currently 74 anticipated vehicles. The parade of vehicles will end up in the parking lot at the new Tractor Supply Company (formerly Shopko). Mike Bleibtrey, owner of Omni Ray Lighting has donated about 1000 American flags to wave as they go by. Members of the Oconto Police Department will be handing out the flags on the morning of the parade. The Oconto Elks Club is organizing food and beverages for the event. Food will be available to the general public for purchase. But they need volunteers to help set up at 10:00 a.m., to serve the food and do the clean up at about 3:00 p.m. If you wish to volunteer, please call City Hall and contact City Administrator Sara at 920-834-7711 or email admin@cityofoconto.com The proceeds from this event will go to the Oconto County Veteran’s Memorial Fund. If you have any other ideas as to how to welcome this group, contact City Hall. So far the VFW, The American Legion, Amvets and Oconto Elks are planning to be involved in this event.
